Austrian Alps: Söll, Obertauern & the Tyrol with your class
Austria offers the most authentically Alpine school ski experience in Europe, traditional Tyrolean villages, family-run mountain restaurants, impeccably maintained pistes, and a ski school culture with the deepest roots of any Alpine nation. The two flagship school group destinations cover very different terrain and clientele. Söll, in the heart of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser, the largest interconnected ski area in Austria at 284 kilometres of piste, is ideally suited to mixed-ability groups, with wide, confidence-building blue runs at lower altitudes and challenging reds and blacks higher up. Obertauern, at 1,740 metres in the Salzburg Alps, is Austria's most snow-reliable resort, a purpose-built circular skiing circuit that guarantees conditions from November through May and handles school groups with practised ease. Both resorts offer the distinctly Austrian après-ski culture, Tyrolean music evenings, schnapps tastings for teachers, and the particular warmth of the Gasthaus, alongside modern facilities and excellent group pricing. For groups who want to combine skiing with a cultural day, Salzburg is within 90 minutes of Obertauern, and the Innsbruck old town is just 40 minutes from Söll, making an afternoon of city culture entirely feasible within a ski week.
