Iceland with your class
Iceland is unlike anywhere else on earth, a place where tectonic plates meet, geysers erupt on schedule, and volcanoes reshape the landscape in real time. For science and geography students, it is less a school trip than a live fieldwork experience: every day brings phenomena that can only be understood by standing in front of them. The trip is based in Reykjavík, with day excursions to the Golden Circle, the South Coast, the Westman Islands, and the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Trip highlights
The Golden Circle: Þingvellir National Park (where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates visibly diverge), the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss Waterfall
The South Coast: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, plus a ferry crossing to the Westman Islands, a volcanic archipelago formed by eruptions as recently as 1973
The Reykjanes Peninsula: an area of recent volcanic activity where students can walk on newly formed lava fields
